Are nandina varieties invasive? #948134

Asked November 05, 2026, 10:18 AM EST

I recently bought some Nandina‘s, either a brightlight or twilight variety. Not sure on the variety because the “twilight” tag was pasted over the “brightlight“ tag (see photo). While the standard Nandina is considered highly invasive, I was told these varieties are not a problem. But I’d like to be sure before I plant them. Can you provide any guidance? Thank you

Expert Response

Hello,

Nandina is considered invasive.  There are varieties that are not yet labeled invasive.  Please see the following from the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.  https://www.lewisginter.org/nandina/

thank you
