I have just removed a wisteria vine. What can I do to the roots left in the ground to ensure they don't start growing new plants?

Thank you for your question. I am uncertain what variety of wisteria you have removed, and can’t tell from the photo whether the entire main trunk is now above the soil. If you still have a stump to paint, you’re going to apply an herbicide and then observe the area regularly and thoroughly and apply the herbicide to any new growth. This may take a year or more, depending upon how extensive the root area is. Good luck!
