What I hear you asking, Is are these edible? If they are tender, I believe you could eat them. I find nothing that they are toxic or bitter. The recommendation is that the plants need time for the ferns to grow and build energy for the next year.
The fern creates energy that will be stored in the underground portion of the plant to produce the following year’s spears. It is important to take care of the ferns even after harvesting to ensure good future harvests.
With your experience and large established patch; give them a try.
