My 91 year old neighbor makes the best pies I've ever eaten! She swears by a thickening product called Clear-Jel A which was recommended by an OSU Extension Home Economist many years ago. She had been able to purchase it from Nichols Garden Nursery in Philomath but they no longer carry it and I suspect Clear-Jel A is no longer available. Assuming that's true, is there a particular cook type clear-jel product you can recommend as a comparable replacement? She doesn't have a computer, so I offered to do a little research for her and I find there are a myriad of options on Amazon. Help, please!

You are in luck! Clear Jel (1 & 4 lb. bags), 3-piece regulators, pickle pipes, and glass weights are available for purchase at the Benton County Extension office located at 4077 SW Research Way, Ste 107, Corvallis. You can call the office directly for more information<personal data hidden>.
Pressure gauge testing is also available at the Benton County Extension Office anytime or leave canner lid. Canner parts and supplies are available at Bi-Mart, Coastal Farm and Wilco stores in Corvallis.

The Extension Food Safety and Preservation Helpline (<personal data hidden>) is now open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through October 9th.
