We live in Winona against the bluff. Every year mid June through early Sept, we see and extraordinary number of millipedes. One year, dealing with them required using a snow shovel nightly. There are hordes outside - our window wells writhe with thick layers of them (see picture attached) . Each afternoon when the sun hit, they all die and smell. And the next morning, it starts all over. They get into our house and our basement is covered (see attached picture with sticky traps covered). The volume is truly extraordinary and something I thought would be of academic interest. I wonder if it speaks to an ecological / predator distruption. My neighbor says it was not an issue 10 years ago. The previous owners tried spraying and we did too initially, but have stopped because we don’t want to be using chemicals and the pest company said it wasn’t really effective anyway. I’d love advice, but again, I’m mostly reporting this because it seems of interest from a research perspective.
