Farmland Drainage #938500

Asked July 08, 2026, 10:31 AM EDT

Can Geauga Extenson provide advice for drainage of farm field? I have 28 acres tillable on Clay Street. Land rises up from Clay Street. There are several washed out areas at the bottom, with large eroded areas/sinholes leading to the ditch along side of Clay Street. Ther are several groundhog borrows in the area. I don't know if these borrows are the cause, or just aggravating the problem. I can get photos if useful. Does Extension offer drainage advice?

On individual farm drainage questions. Farmers need to contact the County USDA NRCS Office. This office is located in Orwell, Ohio, Ashtabula County. They have all of the resources to handle your questions. They will send a Tech out to look over your request. They will develop and write-up a plan for the project. They can also tell you if your project is eligible for cost sharing.  OSU does have specialist working with drainage, but the work is statewide research. The NRCS office phone is<personal data hidden>. Both NRCS and the Farm Service Agency are located in the same office.
Hope the is helps
