25 year old silver maple #938001

Have a silver maple where about a foot and half length of bark has come of the trunk. What can I do to/ not do to help the tree. Attached is a pic

If there isn't rot there I wouldn't be   concerned. Silver maples naturally shed bark once they get older.  There is new bark exposed.  My personal opinion is that as the trunk gets bigger, the bark can't expand so it falls off. My 50 year old Silver Maple is constantly shedding large patches of bark.  I joke that I don't need to purchase mulch as it provides its own.  It is a little scary when it first happens but I don't notice it now unless it is a very large patch.
