Sick apple tree #936239

Asked June 21, 2026, 8:46 AM EDT

Hello, I have a honeycrisp apple tree that has become very sick looking in the last couple weeks. The leaves have become dry and rust colored, as seen in the photo attached. I would love to be able to help the tree! It is located right next to another honeycrisp tree that is thriving and covered in apples. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much in advance!

Expert Response

It could be an infection known as Fire Blight or a similiar disease. See this web page.

The rough areas on the trunk could be entry points for a pathogen.
Submitting a sample to the Plant Disease Clinic would provide a definite diagnosis. There is a fee for this service.  https://pdc.umn.edu/
