I've been finding Spotted Lantern Fly Nymph's on my property, and was advised to report it. (not a question, but an FYI)

Expert Response

No, Nick you no longer need to report Spotted Lantern Fly (SLF) sightings. The Ohio Department of Agriculture oversees management the SLF and in February of this year they announced it is no longer necessary to report (SLF) sightings because they are now considered widespread throughout the state. Due to established populations, the ODA has issued a statewide quarantine, focusing on management rather than tracking new sightings.

Instead of reporting, residents are urged to take direct action to reduce populations:

• Kill on Sight: Squash adult bugs and nymphs immediately.

•  Destroy Egg Masses: Scrape egg masses (which look like gray, mud-like patches) off surfaces with a credit card or knife and place them in soapy water or rubbing alcohol.

• Check Vehicles: Inspect vehicles, trailers, and outdoor items for hitchhikers before traveling to prevent moving them to new areas.

Here are two factsheets with more information.  Thank you for your question.
