Asked June 09, 2026, 10:37 AM EDT

I would like to ask about the use of a product called "Sucker Punch" is it safe to use on a Linden tree or on fruit trees? Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time and help!

Expert Response

First please identify products by the manufacturer. A search on "Sucker Punch" brought up a lot of not applicable web pages. A search on "Sucker Punch plant product" brought up the product. The UMN has not done any research on this product that I could find online. However with any product, look at the ingredients. Do a search on the ingredients to determine whether the product is safe to use. The Bonide web page for this products says it is safe to use. See their detailed instructions.

A further search brought up the information that suckering is sometimes the result of mulch applied too close to the base of the tree. Mulch is good, but should not touch the tree trunks. That stresses the tree and causes the suckers to be sent up.
