Brown areas and wilting on beet greens and chard #933533

Hi -- I am growing golden beets and chard this year (in large livestock tanks filled with purchased garden soil). Within the past week or so, both of my beet greens and my chard (each species is in a different container) are getting large patches of brown/wilty areas on their leaves. I'll attach images of what's going on.
What is this? What's causing it? Can I stop it? if not, can I prevent it from happening in future years? Should I remove and destroy the affected plants? THANKS!
