For larger trees, you may want to work with an arborist who can apply "hack-and-squirt" herbicide later this summer and then about a month later (once the herbicide has time to kill enough roots) have the tree cut down. Cutting down Ailanthus without first treating it with systemic (absorbed, root-killing) herbicide tends to result in it resprouting more abundantly than before, making the eradication attempt even more labor-intensive or time-consuming.
