Perwinkle? #933422

Asked May 29, 2026, 11:24 AM EDT

Hello! Please help me identify this plant. Is it a Periwinkle in the Vinca family? It is about two feet tall and bloomed in early April on a rocky slope facing south with about 8 hours of sunlight. This is the first year it grew and bloomed. I had it about 5 years in a bed that got about 4 hours of morning sun, and then transplanted it in Fall 2025. Any more facts about this plant? Thank you.

Expert Response

Hi Cecilia,

This is native woodland phlox, phlox divaricata. See this page:

This is a really nice spring bloomer, well-behaved and fairly tough. I have this plant in my yard and while the above website says it likes shade to part-shade mine does fine in full sun.

Thanks for the question.
