This looks like the non-native Sweet Autumn Clematis (Clematis paniculata), and if so, yes, it is invasive and widespread in Maryland. If you would like to replant a native equivalent after its removal, Clematis virginiana species is very similar when in bloom, only without the silvery leaf markings (which only tend to appear on young early-season growth on Sweet Autumn Clematis anyway).
