Overseeing with clover #929012

Asked April 20, 2026, 5:05 PM EDT

I want to seed a boulevard area with white clover. I bought the seed last fall and did not get around to doing it. The seed was in my garage over the winter. Should the seed still be good? And would this be a good time to spread it on the boulevard? Or should I wait until fall.

Thanks for reaching out! Your seed should be fine to use. Now is a good time to seed, although the best time is late fall (dormant seeding): https://extension.umn.edu/lawn-care/dormant-seeding

If you'd like to seed the clover now, here is some advice:

1. Seed after the risk of frost passes, typically mid-May to early June.

2. Prepare for more challenges with weeds.

3. Regularly water the site after planting
