Finding someone who will UMD extension recommendations for celandine #925998

Asked March 13, 2026, 3:44 PM EDT

UMD online recommendations say that the best way to get rid of celandine is to apply a mix of of triclopyr and two of the following ingredients: 2 2, 4-D or dicamba. AND that the spraying should only happen when the leaves are out but before flowering. (with a possible second application 2-3 weeks later if the plant is not yet flowering.) I have finding that most lawn care places are not following your practices! (So far I have found one that uses triclopyr as the only active ingredient. and their plan is to continue to spray throughout the summer every 4-6 weeks as they would for other weeds.) - Do you know of any lawn care service(s) that DOES follow your practices? - If not, could I have the lawn care place I have been talking with talk with you about best practices for celandine ?

We don't know what various lawn companies or certified pesticide applicators may be doing as far as celandine control, including whether any of them have found through experience a more effective approach (as long as they follow each pesticide's label directions, that should be a legal use of each product). You are welcome to have any hired applicators talk with Extension's invasive plant specialist, Daniel Buonaiuto. His email address can be found on the linked page.

As it happens, we are currently in the process of deciding how to best update or expand our invasive plant web content, though we may not get too specific about herbicide choices and usage since that information requires continual updating as local and Federal laws and label restrictions change (and manufacturers sometimes alter their product ingredient "recipe" as well), which can be difficult to keep up with considering our large inventory of home gardening web pages overall.
