what are these bugs in my house #925781

Asked March 10, 2026, 1:45 PM EDT

We are periodically getting bitten. Three new members added to the household 4 weeks ago and brought stuff in a UHaul from MN. We've also been going to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and shopping for ranch houses in eastern El Paso County. Wondering what we should do for the current house. Expert Response

Hi Peggy,

I am unable to make a definitive diagnosis from bites alone. Even medical professionals struggle to do so. That being said, bed bugs often bite in lines or zig-zag patterns, which you appear to have. To rule out or confirm bed bugs, I recommend implementing the 'bed isolation' method outlined in this fact sheet:

This time of year, most biting flies have yet to emerge (mosquitoes, black flies, no see ums, sandflies, etc.). Besides bed bugs, the other causes could be chiggers, scabies, dust mites or hay mites, albeit less likely. If you rule out bed bugs, I recommend consulting a dermatologist. But I am happy to answer any questions you have throughout this process.
