Garden Consultation Request #925031

Asked February 25, 2026, 11:15 AM EST

I heard a very informative presentation on perennial gardens and native plants by one of your master gardeners. He indicated that we could schedule a consultation for our gardens. I cannot find a link to schedule a consultation. Would you please provide a link or point me in the right direction. Thank you.

There is no central link for requesting such consultations because, in general, MG volunteers are not able to provide one-on-one, on-site consultations for topics like garden design/layout, plant selection, etc. They can do a site visit to certify a yard for the Bay-Wise program as the main exception. Perhaps the volunteer misspoke or was referring to some MGs having a consulting business on the side (due to liability or safety precautions as a volunteer).

MG volunteers can definitely provide help with gardening questions like plant selection, general tips for plant placement, soil preparation, etc., if consulted at an event like a plant clinic. Organizations like HOAs or condo associations can also probably arrange for a presentation to the group of members, though you can check with the county MG coordinator to be sure and to ask about any other help that's available through your local MG group.

If you want to hire help, either for design work, installation, or maintenance, one resource we suggest is a Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional. Program graduates are trained in sustainable landscaping techniques (which includes the use of native plants in a landscape, and how to manage that landscape in an a more eco-conscious manner).

If you have questions about plant choice, would like feedback on design proposals, or would like some ideas of plants to consider using (and how they would fit with existing site conditions like summer sunlight level and soil drainage), we're also happy to help via questions submitted here to Ask Extension.
