Bean varieties #922852

Asked December 13, 2025, 9:31 PM EST

Hi there! I'm located in Kotzebue. Last summer we had potato plantation in our small garden and yielded 33lbs. Some of our potatoes had that scab to them and I've read that rotating crops is a good idea. I thought about growing beans next summer. Do you have an idea what beans will grow well here? I've asked my dad and it's been 20+ years since he grew beans so he can't remember the best varieties. Thanks in advance!

We don't have a specific list for your location, but we do for interior and south central Alaska.  In general, the lists for beans should be suitable for your location but you may want to provide them extra warmth.  Here are the links to the lists -

Rotating where you plant your potato crop is always a good idea.  It should help keep the potato scab to a minimum.  If you have more questions, please feel free to email me directly at <personal data hidden>
