Mushrooms and White Soil in Garden Beds #920758

Asked October 28, 2025, 12:48 PM EDT

Hi, I started my garden beds two years ago. I put a large layer of fallen leaves from the wooded area of our yard in the bottom of the garden beds before adding soil for the plants. The leaves were from the wooded area of our yard. We watered our garden beds on a timer this summer. We used a sprinkler for 30 minutes each morning. We had so many mushrooms. And some of the soil under the mushrooms was white. I have a few questions. Should I remove all the white soil? Should I treat the soil with a hydrogen peroxide solution to get rid of the mushroom hyphae? Should we water less next year? Thanks, Kristen

Yes.  Water less next year.

Removing some of the mycelia might or might not make a difference, but our guess is most likely not.

Do you have a peroxide based product labeled specifically to eliminate mushrooms in raised beds?  If so, use it according to directions on the label.  Otherwise applying hydrogen peroxide may do more harm than good.
